A Black and White World
A Library
Kara finds herself in monochrome school library. She's being lectured to by a librarian - she knows Miss Honey. She lectures Kara on how guys don't want smart girls. Her hair is up in some old timey pigtails, and she's clutching a pile of books. She and setting are all black and white.
A Kitchen
Danny, also in monochrome. Finds herself in a kitchen, in front a massively packed breakfast table. She avoids getting picked up by Goliath and Mr Mercury II and given a lift to school, and heads out herself.
A Street
Jen finds herself on a strange street. She's walking along on her way to school. She sees an old timey Fire Engine pull up to a tree bell ringing. The firefighters climb up a ladder and rescue a cat. Everything is strangely idyllic.
She sees the sign in front of a high school, her high school. Red Bastion High School. She sees that she's dressed in an 50s vintage cheerleader outfit and surrounded by others. Pinky, seemingly Jen's best friend asks her about her date with Pip last night. Jen gets angry as she's questioned and is confused about what's going on.
Red Bastion
The Headmistress moves Jen along, and admires her domain. After finding a phone booth with no dial tone Danny bumps into Jen outside the school and they catch up. Pip and Phillipa (here known as Pippa) drive up, and Pip asks Jen if she'll wear his school pin. She has no idea what that means and escapes after he says something about the hall monitors.
In History class they bump into Kara but aren't able to catchup. They head a kerfuffle occuring out in the hall - a voice shouting. Jen gets herself excused to see the nurse and gets Danny to come with her. They see a jock they know as Kevin get dragged away into a room by a hall monitor screaming something about how they don't belong here.
While in the classroom Kara tries to keep tabs with her powers on where Danny and Jen are but she struggles to connect with her powers, and manages to just about keep track. They go to the room Kevin was taken but there's nothing there but an empty classroom and a Janitor.
Danny has a flash, remembers that this is the Red Bastion that Jen told her about. This is a prison - some of the people here are constructs and others are inmates that they came to rescue. The constructs are vulnerable to Danny, especially the Young Exemplars, they want to make her happy.
In the Nurses office Jen gets treated with a plaster and a lollipop by the nurse. Danny starts to cause chaos by stealing her chair which causes some strange things to happen to the black and white, but they bump into the Headmistress who gives them into trouble and tries to send them back to class. There's a steel to her words, so they obey for now.
Recess
The kids all leave for recess and the gang group back up in the lunch room. Kara explains the muting of powers, and Danny shares her disruption strategy - it seems to bring colour back into the world. Kara encourages Danny to keep disrupting things. Jen worries that they don't know what happens if they don't behave. Kara proposes they make something happen - Danny and Jen propose that they try and leave the town.
Ken and Max approach to check if Danny is coming to the diner later. Danny vehemently denies that this ever happens, trying to get a rise out of them. This gets a bit of colour out of him as he starts to become angry.
Jen decides that before they do anything she needs a pair of paints. They barge into the boy's locker room, causing more chaos and Jen grabs an outfit - with some car keys in the pocket.
If we're doing this, I need some goddamn pants!
- Jen
Danny reaches out to her powers, and makes something that keeps all 3 of them from being watched
Driving
Stealing the car the gang head to the outskirts of the town, passing through the seeming paradise. They drive past the 'Leaving Red Bastion' sign, and with a blink of static they see the 'Entering Red Bastion' sign. There's a brief blast of the radio, Jen stops and tunes it in. It's Carbine's voice. Jen picks up the CB radio in the car and gets in touch. Carbine conveys the plan - The Headmistress controls the whole place - they all know who they are, they were sent in with some sort of magic that was supposed to disrupt the control of Red Bastion, but clearly is took a while to take effect. They took over a prisoner transport that went into an AEGIS building and then into a portal - we get a flash of the team spending their time happily immersed in the illusion, before they woke up.
Burn it to the fucking ground - they put me in a poodle skirt Carbine!
- Jen
Jen asks if there was a specific list of prisoners - Carbine tells her that some of the kids who were too far gone for Project deprogramming are in here - but also in recent months it's gone from only the unredeemable worst cases being sent there to now more and more frequent incarcerations. She also conveys that in the middle of the town there is something that keeps it all together. They use a map to figure out the centre of the town is right in the middle of the school.
They plan to go back and cause chaos - Jen identifies that Pinky (P-13) and the rest of the cheer team were Project kids she now remembers training with. Jen wonders if anywhere nearby sells fireworks...
This'll be the best 4th of July ever!
Back to School
Danny and Jen sneak back into the school the old fashioned way as Danny struggles to contact her powers. Jen finds Pinky and the team, and starts barking orders at them in project lingo. They overreact severely as Kara's firework display based distraction begins and start causing more trouble. Danny can spot which kids are constructs and which are inmates and starts to gather them to her. Jen tries to get the Project kids under control - this is an extraction - we need to go through the headmistress. The room crowd to fill with colour
The Headmistress enters and tries to assert control over the situation, colour starts to drain again from the scene. At this point Kara drives the car through the wall and throws a big firework at the Headmistress - Danny grabs a set of keys with a shimmering gold key from the Headmistress and runs. Kara gets hit by The Hall Monitor, the creature they realise they saw drag away the student earlier. It's a creature with a weird shape which suggests human but with no face. Kara distracts the Hall Monitor with some sparklers to the face, and the firework goes off and is in full technicolour.
Jen sends the child soldiers to escort the rest of the inmates to the edge of town, leaving Danny, Jen and Kara running towards the office with the Hall Monitor and the Headmistress in pursuit.
The Office
It's a perfectly put together office. At the heart of the middle of the desk is a crystal dome containing a perfect model of the town bursting with energy. Kara chucks it at a wall - but the wall shifts away and it lands in the hand of the Headmistress.
Jen charges into the Headmistress and hits her full force - taking the dome from her - back in full living colour and smashing her through the wall which explodes. She starts to lose her shape as a human and they see her true seemingly demonic form.
Thats for the poodle skirt you bitch!!
- Jen
Danny hears a whisper in head from the Headmistress but manages to keep herself together with a little pep talk from Kara. Kara hands her a sparkler, and she lights the biggest firework they have right in the Headmistress' face. Jen crushes the dome and the world falls out from underneath and they get dumped into a ditch next to a freeway in upstate Halcyon. There's no sign of the Headmistress.
The Real World
Carbine congratulates the team, and gathers the inmates into some vehicles driven by members of her team. Pinky and the team are back in prison jumpsuit and give Jen a look as they head off
Kara asks if she thinks they'll open this place up again. Carbine isn't sure and wonders what they actually did to the place. The gang get changed and take off in an Uber. They discuss what sort of alibi they have for the week they spent away as they head to the Wrap Up. They discuss if they made the right decision to free everyone - and the ethics of a mind prison. Jen isn't sure if she trusts Carbine yet, but she trusts her more than she does AEGIS. The Burritos get served in a newspaper wrap - the headline - PANDORA WANTED FOR MURDER
